LRL in Eningen at the Achalm, 3,5km + 215m climb
As I knew how steep the Achalm is and knew the course lenght and climb before registration, for once I only registered for A short, not A long (5,8lm + 425m climb) and had the same course as my mother and my father as a result.
We selected our start times accordingly, letting my mother go out first (she was hoping for some help and motivation when we are overtaking her) and then my father 3 min. before me.
Aim of the day was to beat my father, of course.
Fist control was a long steep climb first, hard, but not as bad as expected. After that there were a few flat or downhill controls which were enough for me to catch both my parents - just in time for a 2 controls long climb, which was a lot nicer in company. Managed to not loose my father again and barely arrive at the finish before him after a frantic chase (he got 50m or so on the third last control when he had the better micro-route-choice). Fun run and definetely pushing more and faster than I'd have if I'd seen nobody on the course.
Details:
1) Missed the other possible route choice going right at the start, which would have made for a flatter climb. No idea if it would have been faster.
4) The light green shortly before the turned out to be a lot thornier and darker than it looked and took me 2 min. to cross - my mother (who runs a lot slower) was faster going down and around. 1 min?
5) Route-choice error. After the awful green experience on the way to the control, the path looked like a much nicer alternative than climbing directly up the hill. But it took me 5 min. there to get to the same place that I would have gotten to with maybe 2 or 3 min. climb. At least 2 min. lost I'd say.
